Through a misunderstanding of literary forms, many Fundimentalist
Christians have concluded that the universe is defective. This is how it
works. When God kicked the first family out of his garden he pronounced
only three curses: on snakes, pain in childbirth, and weeds. I can live
with that, being male, having no affection for snakes, and a weed is a
plant growing in the wrong place.
But then they go to St Paul who writes, "The creation groans waiting for
redemption," which is obvious hyperble but it is preached as teaching a
defective universe caused by Adam's sin.
