Your logic is better than your examples. Back when average Joe Slob
believed in a flat earth it was a matter of faith because not being a
geometer he didn't have any physical evidence to the contrary. Now the
average Joe Slob has physical evidence and recognizes a round earth -
unless there are really people who believe the space shots are faked.
Same with pi. For average Joe Slob 3 was within the tolerances available
to him - good enough for government work and file to fit.
Offhand, I can't think of a good modern example except for YEC people who
deny physical evidence that even average Joe Slob can understand.
