Unfortunately, no there were no questions about religious affiliation --
which I think would be more telling than age.
The FAQ at http://www.gallup.com has an interesting article on how they
select their sample base.
I would like to see the results of this same poll based on religious
affiliation, but šIš certainly couldn't afford one. Could one of
you educators on the list get a grant?
Something that disturbs me about the questions was the one concerning
whether the "theory of evolution" and/or the "theory of creationism"
should be taught. Creationism is NOT a theory, and calling it such
makes it sound as though it has a scientific basis. The reference
should have been to either the "theory of evolution" and the "philosophy
of creationism" or else just "evolution" and "creationism" without
modifiers.
I would also be interested in who ordered the 1982 poll taken, which
would have considerable bearing on what and how the questions were asked
and phrased.
