Does anyone know whent he term "methodological naturalism" was first used?

I am reading a book at the moment which suggests - though it doesn't state
it - that it it became popular to distinguish between methodological and
metaphysical reductionism in response to Ruse's presentation at the 1993
AAAS "The New Antievolutionis" seminar, when he (allegedly) shocked his
audience by claiming - following Phil Johnson - that "has certain
metaphysical assumptions built into doing science".

It may have become popular since then, but was thuis the first time the
distinction had been made and the terms used?

    Thanks,

    Steve
