- Unedited version of "The Mistrial of
Darwin", that appeared in The Banner, April 23, 1992. This
review of Phillip Johnson's Darwin on Trial elicited a response
from the Presbytery of Northern California in the Orthodox Presbyterian
Church (OPC) questioning whether an elder in the OPC could hold views such
as those found in this book review.
- A letter to the editor of New Horizons,
the denominational magazine of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. This letter
was a response to the February 1993 issue that had four articles on the
creation/evolution issue. Several statements from this letter were used
as evidence against Dr. Gray.
- The Report of the Committee of Five to Draft
Charges Against Dr. Terry M. Gray. This committee was established by
the Presbytery of Midwest of the OPC in September 1993 to draft heresy
charges. The charges as proposed were adopted at the March 1994 meeting.
- A letter to the Committee of
Five in response to the first draft of the charges. This letter was
written to address the concerns of the Committee, but failed to convince
the committee that no charges were warranted. Some but not all of this
document has been incorporated into the Appeal.
- The Appeal to the Presbytery of the
Midwest (dated September 1995) after Dr. Gray was found guilty of Charge
#1 (concerning the animal ancestry of Adam's body).
- The actions of the 63rd General
Assembly of the OPC (meeting at Geneva College, Beaver Falls, June
6-13, 1996) concerning Dr. Gray's views. These are excerpts from the official
minutes of the Assembly. The Assembly upheld the charges against Dr. Gray
by a vote of roughly 85-25 (unofficial count). The case was discussed in
depth by Advisory Committee #10 which had both a majority
and a minority report.
A protest against
the Assembly's action was later entered signed by 8 members of the Assembly.
- The ecclesiastical
censure of indefinite suspension from office was pronounced against
Dr. Gray. A written explanation of the censure
was distributed to the Harvest OPC congregation.
- The recantation letter submitted by Dr. Gray to the Session of Harvest
Orthodox Presbyterian Church dated November 17, 1997. The censure of indefinite suspension from
office was lifted by action of the Harvest Session in January, and Dr. Gray was restored to being
an officer in good standing.
