A few months ago, during a discussion about historical interations
between science and the church, someone recounted an incident
from a few centuries ago.
The scholars of that day, heavily influenced by Aristotelean
metaphysics, were starting to say things like, "Not even God
could __________." The pope at that time pointed out that this
conflicted with the church's teachings. This helped open
the scholars' thinking to other possibilities.
Does anyone else remember posting this or seeing it posted?
The search engine on the archives doesn't seem to be working,
and Alta Vista apparently has indexed only a fraction of
our archives.
Thanks.
