Phil has jumped on a bandwagon driven by the Berkely scientist Peter
Duesberg who has been a vocal and lonely opponent of the HIV model for AIDS.
Peter's major criticism is that one of Koch's postulates has not been
formally proven--that is no one has positively shown that HIV is sufficient
to induce AIDS. Peter has criticised the scientific establishment of too
hastily favoring one conclusion and ignoring contradictory evidence. Does
this sound like an issue Phil would rise to or what?

Deusberg's major complaint is that even though there is an extremely strong
correlation between HIV infection and development of AIDS, no one has
injected HIV into someone in order to document its role in AIDS. However, a
related simian virus (SIV) causes identical symptoms in monkeys so a viral
origin for AIDS has precedence.
