Bernie: One book that came to mind when I read your last post is THE
MOST RELUCTANT CONVERT, by Downing. Along with Polkinghorne, I
recommend it.

The book is about how C.S. Lewis, an atheist, found the transition
quite amazing, quite unexpected, and, interestingly enough, in two
separate parts, first to a sort of deism, then to Christianity.

My own conversiion happened in much the same way, so maybe I read
myself into the book. I reviewed it for PSCF a few years ago -- a copy
is on my web site at

www.burgy.50megs.com/convert.htm

Better still - read the book. It places (for me) the conversion
experience squarely in the intellectual framework.
