It is pretty much inline with what I now think. He's hitting on the same themes and ideas that I have.
He closes with this:
"One word of caution: saying "God works in mysterious ways" is an essentially meaningless answer to all of this. All it serves to state is that "I don't know either, but I still believe.""
As a Christian, it can get comfortable saying "it's a mystery." Then one can peacefully slumber in the midst of cognitive dissonance. Sometimes it isn't a mystery- sometimes it is reality conflicting with our false ideology. In those cases the data is only a mystery because it conflicts with our false ideas, and that's why the ideas and data can't be reconciled. I feel like I've given up some false ideology and the "it's a mystery" no longer feels like a mystery. I seem to be going down the path that Howard Van Till is... it's nice to have someone in front leading the way...

Subject: [asa] An atheist's view of the Christianity/evolution debate
Some of you follow Jack Haas's faith-science news blog at http://www.asa3.org/users/jackhaas/blog/
I wanted to draw your attention to one of the links he posted yesterday.
Austin Cline is a regional director for the council for secular humanism. His blog entry is not filled with ridicule and sarcasm but is a well written articulation of some of the perceived issues between Christianity and evolution. He states very well the concerns that many Christians, especially YEC's, have with attempts at reconciling Christianity and evolution. I'd like to hear your comments. His blog is at http://atheism.about.com/od/evolutionreligionreligious/a/EvolutionChristianity.htm and there are links to some related articles.
