Hi Pim,
I was primarily discussing MWI, which is a quantum interpretation and not a cosmology.? But I did mention multiple universes so alas I guess i have to reply on this topic.? I don't want to because I'm not very familiar with cosmology.? To which theory are you referring saying it is the most successful cosmology??
Regarding string theory, there has been a rebellion among many in the physics community, saying that it is not physics but rather just un-testable metaphysics.
Are you referring to an inflationary cosmology that appeals to a scalar field to produce multiple?big bangs?
Whether or not it actually is a **scalar** field capable of producing multiple Big Bangs, or whether it is a vector field or a higher-order tensor field or actually high enough order to have thoughts (like God), I believe it is philosophically the same when we appeal to it to explain complexity within the universe.? I think many agree that there must be **something** out there capable of producing that Big Bang, and I think we all agree that whatever it is it must be capable of producing more than just one Big Bang.?
From a theists point of view, I think it is feasible that we can propose a subset of God to explain what we have seen God do in physics so far.? So I don't think the concept of a scalar field invalidates God.? It just appeals to a subset of His capabilities and does not offer any explanation for other things such as how the scalar field self-exists or why it is the way it is or how does non-locality operate in QM, etc.
Phil
