Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Cook, I would especially
like to second the sentiments expressed in the last sentence of Randy's
post.

I would also like to say that I understand Dr. Cook's frustration with
the
imbalance of topics addressed on this discussion list. ASA probably does
better at this in its annual meetings and in PSCF. This might be a good
trend for this list. I would also mention that postings with a political
agenda are annoying. The fewer of them the better. One thing that makes it
more difficult for broadening the range of topics is that people who want
to go in a different direction may become discouraged and drop off the
list.

Some of the comments made by some members of this list who are not ASA
members seem to indicate that they get their impression of ASA from what
they read on the postings on this forum. Some seem to assume that the
opinions expressed here are the official position of ASA. They are unaware
that some of the people who post most frequently are not ASA members and
that some of the people who get bashed a lot are ASA members.
