To justify a judgment that the following comment is not off-topic I
remark that it has a connection with acoustics and genetics.
For fifty years (roughly the second half of the 19th C) there were two
Presbyterian churches in New Zealand (divided North-South, embodying two
Scottish traditions). They finally united. Union was held up for much of
that period by debate over two issues: 1. Whether the use of an organ
was permissible in church services 2. Whether a man was permitted to
marry his deceased wife's sister.
