Thanks Terry - I'm very confused though. What do you mean that the
faith-science connection is doubtful? The question was posed by me because
I'm writing a book on evolution and Christianity, and about the culture war.
I'm trying to make the point that there are literally quadrillions of
different options in various of the main denominational and doctrinal
schisms, and that the age of the earth or literalism is just one of many. I
just needed a bit of help from these many people who I know have such stores
of knowledge about the history and philosophy and doctrines within
Christianity as I know people have discussed things like Calvinsim, Reformed
movements etc on this very list. Maybe I didn't make the connection to my
book project and purpose clear. But although the question may seem
tangential, it's an essential point I'm making in my book which is clearly
directly related to science-faith.
I don't want to cause any controversy, I just wanted a few answers not
opinions :) The book George suggested looks great and I ordered it from my
library! It's shame there are not more online resources. I would think there
would be some sort of branching tree history of the various denominations.
That would be very helpful, like an evolutionary tree/bush!

And now for the moderator note. As you all can see, this topic has
created its share of volatile disagreement already. Technically, I'd
call it off-topic--(the faith-science connection is doubtful). Of
course, I couldn't even resist trying to contribute, but let's be
careful. I'd encourage those of us interested in pursuing this
discussion to take it up privately with Wendee.
