Think about it this way, at least the women without a man, due to death or
choice (gays), will have someone to procreate with. For all the speeches
about living according to one's own birth right, not many would accept
polygamy. Nor would I. Those would do not care about the lose of creative
genes, those who support homosexuality, polygamy is not a far step. In
fact it is necessary if there are more men than women. But if one believes
that A man should have only ONE woman then one must consider the fact that
if breeding males are taking away, for the purpose of homosexuality, then
one MUST accept polygamy as a necessity in order to propagate the species.
But if one believes that all are obligated to procreate then no one need
choose to be gay or NOT have children. 1+1=3 if one believes that life
comes from life. Those who do not are forever lost in a mathematical
solution which has no solution.

This particular situation (as opposed to the question of whether one who is
already a Christian ought to take up polygamy) is complicated by the problem
of what happens to the other wives. Divorce is also a bad option (though
necessary in some situations). Divorcees may have no prospects for
remarriage in some cultures where marriage provides essential financial
support.

The fact that having only one wife is listed as a requirement for church
officers in the Pastorals suggests that there was the possibility of a
polygamous church member.

Chesterton found the presence of a question about polygamy on the U.S.
immigration form highly amusing. In addition to speculating on answers such
as "No, thank God!" or "No such luck", he wondered about the likelihood of a
covert polygamist trying to get into the U.S. answering the form honestly:
"Yes, I am traveling with my forty-two wives disguised as secretaries."
