Thanks to all who responded with helpful comments about NDBF theodicy. I
have spent most of the last week reading the materials you recommended. It
is good to be reminded that, although I am seemingly the only
"evolutionist" Christian in Rockford, IL, I am not alone in the larger
Christian church (both in history and in space). I actually took some time
to watch again the last installment of the PBS "Evolution" video series
(the episode called What about God?). I was reminded again about how
ridiculous Ken Ham's rhetoric is (although the documentary was very
gracious to him), which included his NDBF requirement. The treatment of
Wheaton College was very good; I think the college can be proud of its
portrayal there. Anyway, I digress. Thanks again for helping me compile a
list of references on this issue.
Now, a comment to Jim Eisele. Jim, contrary to your assertion (see below)
it is YOUR response that does not address the point of my original post.
My post asked specifically for help articulating a sound orthodox Christian
theology that could be used in discussion with fellow Christians who are
YECs. Your comments are not within these intellectual and theological
guidelines, so I would much appreciate it if all remaining discussion
relating to your thread be assigned a different name. How about "Debate
with Jim"?
Sincerely,
Douglas Hayworth

Um, I don't see anyone addressing the point here.
Maybe you need an atheist for some objectivity.
YECs know what the Bible says. Then they become
a cult as they retreat from modernity and impose
irrationality/ignorance on their followers.
Those not interested in truth-seeking should
probably stop reading NOW.
Your Bible is wrong. It is a mythological
explanation for death, a la Pandora's box.
The Bible says Adam is the first man about
6,000 years ago, and the rest is in the book.
TE/OEC won't reconcile with the Bible, despite
the pained twistings of Christians.
Now, I appreciate non-YEC Christians for their
efforts to keep that ignorance in check.
But the Bible can't be defended once you give
up YEC. Tough choice.
Jim Eisele
P.S.
I debated whether or not to post this to a
Christian list. It is the disturbing lack of
honesty and integrity that I have seen among
some Christians that prompted me to do so.
