The following information comes from my brother's church near DC.

May 21: Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the Human Genome Project
from 7:30 - 9:00 at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church, 10701 Old Georgetown
    Rd. Rockville, MD 20852
Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., is the director of the National Human
Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health
(NIH). He oversees the Human Genome Project (HGP), a complex
multidisciplinary scientific enterprise directed at mapping and sequencing
all of the human DNA, and determining aspects of its function. This work has
been referred to by him as "an adventure that beats going to the moon or
splitting the atom." In addition to his long list of contributions to basic
genetic research and scientific leadership, Collins is known for his close
attention to ethical and legal issues in genetics. He has been a strong
advocate for protecting the privacy of genetic information and has served as
a national leader in efforts to prohibit gene-based insurance
discrimination. Building on his own experiences as a physician volunteer in
a rural missionary hospital in Nigeria, Collins is also very interested in
opening avenues for genome research to benefit the health of people living
    in developing nations.

The community is invited to attend. For directions and more information
you can check our website: www.saintmarkpresby.org

    Thanks, Beth Williams
