Besides listing the TIME MAGAZINE cover story, he also lists an
"Oberlin article" which is apparently a magazine article which
postdates the Time story:

On page 2 of this magazine article it cites the Oct. 1996 Time
Magazine article, so I don't think there is any doubt about it.
BTW, time is a global publication and comes out in several
different editions, there is a U.S. edition and an International
edition for instance, and there may be others. The Time Archive
may not list them all, or it may have an error.
