A little more about Stott for those who are interested. The following
fowarded post is the announcement of the conference this weekend in Chicago
on "the young earth" if any one is interested. Personally I am going
because I know many of the people there and want to know what is being said
because I am sure that I will here about it at church in the next few weeks
and am very concerned about this new wave of interest in geocentricity.

The Young Earth
WORLDVIEW CONFERENCE WITH PHILIP STOTT OF SOUTH AFRICA
7 pm Saturday April 19, 1997; 9:45 AM Sunday April 20, 1997
Church of Christian Liberty
502 W. Euclid Ave,
Arlington Heights Illinois, 60004
847-259-4444
You are invited to attend our
1997 Worldview Conference and Debate
on The Young Earth.
Admission is free!
The centerpiece of the conference will be the debate between two scientists,
Philip Stott (six day creationist) of South Africa, and Fred Heeren
(progressive creationist), on the resolution: "Bible believing Christians
may believe that the universe was created billions of years ago."
Is the Bible inadequate for modern man to truly understand his surroundings?
What is the role of science in the Christian's understanding of the faith
"which was once for all delivered to the saints" [Jude 3].
How can we know what is the truth?
These, and others, are some of the questions that will explored during the
Worldview Conference on the Young Earth
While Philip Stott is with us, he will be presenting the Biblical and
scientific case for belief in the supernatural creation of
the universe by God in six, 24 hour days.
WHY ALL THE FUSS ?
We live in a day and age when the foundations of the Christian faith are
undergoing continued onslaught from the forces of rationalism and skepticism.
In our educational establishment, from kindergarten to university, the
children and young adults of America are suffering a ceaseless barrage of
Humanistic propaganda. In our news and entertainment media, the Christian
worldview upon which this country was founded, and which guided its most
creative minds, has been systematically replaced with the mind numbing
godlessness of an evolutionary thesis concerning the origin of life. This
has left millions of Christians with an inadequate view of God's plan in
Creation, and caused them to bring into their Christian faith and thinking
the presuppositions of a supposedly "neutral" scientific method.
One of the fiercest arenas of conflict is in the area of the inerrancy of
Holy Scripture, where we are told that the "facts of science" contradict the
Biblical account of Creation. Many Christians have accepted this Humanistic
notion that science is an objective investigation into pre existing facts,
and that it is man who gives meaning to the interpretation of those facts.
WHY A DEBATE?
A debate between two Christian scientists who hold such contradictory views
of the origins of the universe, and therefore man, will air the important
differences of Biblical interpretation, and illustrate the various
scientific theories which buttress their positions. Those attending will,
therefore, be afforded a unique opportunity to listen to cutting edge
argument, and thus be prepared to give an educated "answer to every man that
asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you" [1 Peter 3:15].
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
* Adults who have always wanted to be better informed.
* Students who need to learn how to defend their Biblical position.
* Young people who are confused with the evolution of their school books,
and want to understand God's plan in Creation.
WHO ARE THE SPEAKERS?
Philip Stott, who currently resides in South Africa, was born in England in
1943. He studied Civil Engineering at Manchester University where he
obtained B.Sc. with Honors and M.Sc. degrees. He lectured in Civil
Engineering at universities in Nigeria and South Africa for six years. For
several years he has been lecturing on the effect of the basic assumptions
underlying modem scientific thinking in the fields of Biology, Geology,
Geophysics and Astronomy at universities, colleges and other institutions in
France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Belgium, the Netherlands and Russia.
His book, Vital Questions, and other writings have been published in several
languages.
Fred Heeren is the founder and president of Day Star Productions, whose
ministry is to creatively reach a skeptical generation with the Gospel. Mr.
Heeren's best selling book, Show Me God, is the result of a six year quest
to answer the question: Does God exist, and if so, what kind of God? In the
process, Mr. Heeren has interviewed theoretical physicists like Stephen
Hawking, NASA scientists and Nobel prize winning astronomers. His research
has put Mr. Heeren, in his words, "at odds with many Christians who believe
the universe was created recently." He has produced both films and videos to
much acclaim, and edits the new quarterly journal Cosmic Pursuit, a magazine
especially for skeptics and how to reach them. He lives with with his wife
and five children in Wheeling, Illinois.
