Dear Steve,
I would not give up on searching for the truth with humility. My point is
that Science is ONLY A SERVANT to the ultimate revelation of God through
Jesus Christ who we can encounter personally through faith. As Augustine
says it well, "Faith Seeks Understanding", it is ultimately our trust in
Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord that makes sense out of all
of the universe as well as our own existence. I teach in a Christian
College and I got interested in the origins issue because of the emphasis
on integration of faith and learning in my institution. I now only use my
interests in the origins issue in evangelism, particularly to the scholars
from China who were formerly educated in an atheistic worldview that the
belief in a Creator makes more sense to reality and thus remove the stumbling
block to their examining themselves for their need of salvation despite the
dormant humanistic worldview of scientism. An effort is being made to
unite those of us who believe in Creation in an upcoming conference in Biola
Univ. entitled "Mere Creation". The origins issue has divided the contemporary
Christian world into camps that bitterly oppose each other. I pray that
somehow we'll see more of our common bond in Christ than our
disagreements, which will likely be there no matter how we argue.
