Jack Haas had "sparked" my recollection of his writings
as read by me as a young Carnegie Tech physics student
in 1949 or so. These quotes "came alive" as I read them.
Eddington did not convince me, as an agnostic/atheist,
to seriously seek religious answers, but it did influence
me all the same to remember that religious answers could
be entertained by the minds of scientists. It is probably
no coincidence that, when I did finally become a Christian
a decade later, it was the preaching of a Quaker professor
(from Malone College) that was a chief influence.
Years later, our family enjoyed the fellowship of the Ohio Yearly
Meeting of Friends for a couple years, terminating when yet another
IBM-instigated job transfer took us west. Our Friends minister,
Hiram Bridenstine, yet lives and ministers to people in Canton, Ohio.
Thanks for bringing this back to my memory!
