Design Theory vs Burden of Proof

Hi Chris,
You made a great effort to explain your beliefs, and I suppose out of
courtesy I should do the same. Most people can't tolerate the existence of
unknowns--unanswerable questions, or the possible existence of something
beyond the human understanding. Religion takes care of unknowns for many
people. Materialism performs the same function for others. I would prefer
evolution to remain a mystery than adopt "random mutation and natural
selection" as an explanation, merely because I couldn't think of anything
better. Maybe someone will come up with an explanation some day. Until then
I prefer to wonder about it. It is true that in the past religious people
tried to impose their beliefs upon others. I haven't seen evidence of such
coercion for many years. I see plenty of evidence of materialists using the
courts and ridicule to impose their beliefs upon everyone else. Resentment
of such tactics is my motive for participating in this debate. I wish I
could run this explanation into five pages as you have done. But the idea is
just too simple.
