Steve Jones asked in his postTE/EC marginalised? #3 (Sat, 24 Jul 1999
21:46:30 +0800) with respect to Ghillean Prance:

"I would appreciate the exact reference. Was his TE/EC *position* "well
written up in the journal Nature"?"

The article I had mentioned was on Ghillean Prance's retirement from the
directorship of Kew and
can be found in Nature 399: 627, dated June 17 1999. The first two
paragraphs say:

"After more than a decade at the helm of one of the world's best known
botanic gardens, Sir Ghillean prance, director of the Royal Botanic
Gardens, is calling it a day and returning to research.

"Prance has spent his professional life in just two institutions - 25
years at the new York Botanic Gardens, which he joined as a research
assistant after completing his PhD in 1963, and the following 11 years
at Kew."

After discussing Sir Ghillean's role in plant conservation,
documentation of genetic resources and biodiversity, the final paragraph
concludes:

"Prance will be 62 in July has no immediate plans to retire. He intends
to return to the science that launched his career three decades ago: the
botany of the Amazon, which he will pursue under a fellowship at the
University of Reading."

The article does not mention his faith, nor would I have expected to, as
it was not the topic of the news item.

God Bless
