I think a large bottle of Courvoisier would be a more gentlemanly bet.
The "now disproven" bit leapt out at me as not at all in the style of
the EB. Not to mention the impossibility of disproving such a thing,
plus the implied contradiction of evolution, which I doubt the EB would
wish to make.
