I have written the author of the paper whose abstract I posted. The
original paper was in Economic Inquiry, July 1998 v36 n3 p373(17).

Title: Rationality and the "religious mind."
Author: Laurence Iannaccone, Rodney Stark and Roger Finke

I sent the entire text (which was copyrighted, and thus I should not have)
to the reflector, but it was apparently blocked. This article not only
makes the assertion, but backs it up with hard data. I have written to
Iannaccone to see if it is posted somewhere, and will report if it is. He
has done lots of interesting stuff (mostly based on surveys) of interest to
this group. My daughter got the article from her University, and I can
send it privately to anyone who wishes to read it.
