The mathematical argument rests upon the assumption that one and only one
sequence will provide the specified function. That is where the
creationist mathematical argument fails.

Gish wrote: "The highly specific biological activity of
each protein is due to the precise way the amino acids are
arranged, just as the information conveyed by this sentence is
determined by the precise sequence of the 190 letters found in
it." Duane Gish "The Origin of Life," Proc. First Int. Conf.
Creationism (Pittsburgh: Creation Science Fellowship, 1986), p.
62

Let's examine this statement. The important thing about a
sentence is the conveying of a particular meaning. This is the
function of a string of letters. Now, Gish could have said, "The
biological activity of each protein is due to the arrangement of
the amino acids, just as the meaning imparted by this sentence is
determined by the sequence of the 152 letters in it." or "The
enzymatic activity of a protein is caused by the order of the
amino acids, just as the meaning of this sentence is given by the
order of the 125 letters in it."

Then there are spelling errors which don't destroy function:
"Thee enzymatic activity uf a protein is caused by the order of the
amino acids, jist as the meaning of this sentence is given by the
order of the 126 letters in it."

"The enzymatic activitie of a protein is kuntrolled by the ordre of the
amino acids, just as the meaning of this sintunce is givn by the
order of the 131 lettirs in it."

All the sentences and the multitudinous others all convey
the same piece of information i.e. serve the same function. Some
serve the function better than others. Why would it be
surprising that protein sentences are similar? The fact of
multifunctionality in the RNA phase space, is exactly what is
seen in the long program on my web page. Go get it and run it- if you run
it over night, note the numbers at the top of the screen and run it again
the next night. The numbers will be different. this means that the same
shape is created by a different sequence.
