" 1. Is the seven days of creation seven literal days or
billions of years. Can we trust radiometric dating? 2. The
evolution/creation argument is another dilemma for me. I believe God did
create us but "how?" is my question."
Most all folks here will hold the position that 7 literal days cannot be
reconciled with the known scientific data. One or two will argue that
reconciliation is possible, but a the arguments are 99.99 to .01 against
them (IMHO).
As a physicist, I see no rationale for NOT accepting radiometric dating
methodologies. Books in attack of those methods have been written, of
course,
but they don't seem to hold up against analytical criticism.
I have run a Compuserve forum (RELIGIOUS ISSUES) for about three years
now where, from time to time, the "young earth" people have come in and
opened debate. WITHOUT EXCEPTION, I believe, they have gone away after a
few weeks having made fools of themself and, in so doing, disgracing
the name of our Lord in doing so.
Although I say the above, I am a friend of Dr. Duane Gish, a prominent
speaker for ICR, a young earth organization. And he is my friend. We
agree that the Lordship of Christ is what is important, and God as
Creator is important but not, in general, the way in which He did it!
The "evolution/creation argument" is a strawman. The argument is, rather,
accidentalism vs purposefulness. The Darwinist philosophy posits
accidentalism, we are all here as a cosmic accident. Darwinism in
science, however, is a perfectly respectable scientific paradigm. One
needs to distinguish carefully, of course, between science and philosophy
when reading/arguing issues here!
Welcome to the list. Hope your interactions here are useful.
