I don't think it says much other than that humans are *bastards*. But
Christians have always believed this. As Chesterton (Gilbert Keith) has
said (and I paraphrase) the one definitely observable doctrine of
Christianity is Original Sin (the tendency that human beings have towards
evil.)
For the majority of us, sanctification is a slooooow process with much
backsliding. We believe we have been given grace to assist us in this
process, though. Sometimes, we can even *feel* it.
