I must pick a nit here. Geology gave up on the global flood at the beginning
of the previous century. Hutton died in 1797 and argued for a earth with no
flood. Lyell published his first volume in 1830 condemning the concept of a
global flood. Even Cuvier (1800-1805) rejected the concept of a single global
flood.
