In today's (July 30,1996) Wall Street Journal, on page A12,
there appears a book review by Paul Gross of Michael Behe's
'Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution'
I'm sending this post from work so I do not have the time
to post it in its entirety (work does have a way of getting
in the way at times) but here is the closing paragraph. It
may whet the appetites for those looking for a different
topic of discussion.
Last paragraph:
"Unfortunately, Mr. Behe patronizes or ignores the successes
of molecular evolution and pounces on a few puzzles as though each
spelled the death of Darwinism. He does not attend seriously to
the developmental consequences of small genetic changes, which
create whole new body-plans. Thus "Darwin's Black Box" is not
refutation of Darwinism that creationists long for. Science cannot
yet explain, among other things, the origin of life on this planet
a few billion years ago. But whatever happened then, there is no
trace--at least in the findings of science so far--of an
intelligent designer intervening thereafter."
I hope some of you find this as intriguing as I have found most
of the discussions on this reflector. Thanks to all for their
contributions.
