What we are talking about is selective pressure on a constrained population
where any variability in survival will quickly be selected for. This case
is no different than the selection of color in peppered moths by predation.
If a change in gene frequency in a population is grounds for establishing
new families of organisms, biology has indeed strayed a long way.
