During the 80s I lived in Wichita Kansas. The largest hospital in the
city had a very important name change. It changed from Wesley Medical
Center where it was run by the Methodist Church to HCA Wesley. HCA
stands for Hospital Corporation of America. Like in the UK the US has
had a long history of the Church being involved in providing health
care. But in the last few decades there has been a takeover of health
care from the Church -- not by our government -- but by for profit
organizations. This also happened in insurance. Blue Cross/Blue
Shield, the health insurance my family uses, used to be a non-profit
cooperative. My insurance card shows Anthem Corporation because BC/BS
has been likewise been taken over by for profit companies. As I said
before I don't have a need for government running health care it does
need to be wrested from the for-profit companies. Many countries have
found many different solutions with different levels of government
involvement. The first step for us as Christians in the U.S. is to get
past this "I don't want to pay for someone else's health care"
attitude, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n-uePbXT4Q
