Lawsy David, unless I am just misunderstanding you, it sounds like your
sense is that Christianity and its beliefs/understandings are in (or
should be in) some sort of monolithic lockstep. But that does not
account for the hundreds of identifiable denominational variants. The
spectrum of beliefs/understandings within the bounds of Christianity
has always been broad, broader than most mainstream folks realize.
Where one puts down the dividing line between truth and heresy is
subjective and fluid, but I think Burgy is suggesting that we be
generous with definitional lines like that for others in order to share
perspectives and perhaps learn from our differences. JimA [Friend of

Burgy,
Oh my goodness, don't you think this sounds a bit dog-in-the-manger?
I would urge you to propose ways of fostering dialog between apologists
and atheists, and even Christians and Muslims, in places that don't
distract from the main mission and goals. It isn't an either-or
proposition.

Do I understand you, Ted, to be saying that there is only one way of
understanding; that Christianity is that way, and that no dissent from
that position will be tolerated?
If that is so, it may be time to leave the ASA.
