Also relevant is the fact that Israel had been a rather disunited
bunch of mostly rural people not that long before. Skilled craftsmen
were a major import.

More precise values of pi were known in surrounding civilizations, but
the main function for higher math(s) at the time was astrology, not
something the Israelites should have been involved in.
