Do you suppose that Kronecker ever realized that pi is built into the
shapes of planets and stars? That is a transcendental number that one
finds in creation. The segmentation of annelids, centipedes and
millipedes at least comes close to fractional parts. Diagonals in
crystals give us some irrational numbers, at least. I have to conclude
that, at a minimum, he was a lousy observer, but excelled at dogmatics,
the nontheological kind.
