After reading this I have to rescind some of my prior post because this makes good points.?

(It took forever to wade through this article and find the actual interpretation of the text.? When I finally found it, I thought it was a good treatment.)? It says this is a poetic account as I had said, but also that the hailstorm (of verse 11) blocked the sky and made the day dark.? So it combines what I said (poetic statements) with what others on the list have said (the sun being darkened).? That hailstorm darkness may have played into the poetic statement of the sun being dumb-struck.??The significance of a hailstorm (killing enemies plus making the sky dark) would be much greater than the significance of a passing cloud going in front of the sun and would be worthy of poetic treatment.

The conclusion is the same that this had nothing to do with the earth's rotation.
