I come at the matter from a different direction. Consider the problem of
an individual who has freely avoided or rejected the grace that makes him
fit to enjoy the awful holiness of the Almighty. The most horrible state
would be to be in that presence eternally. The essential nature of hell
is that it is where one need not the aware of God. Hence hell is God's
loving provision for those who cannot stand to be in heaven and whom he
will not change against their will. As I understand it, I must be remade
in the likeness of my Savior, with a /soma pneumatikon/, in order to fit
into the heavenly scene.
