I believe it would be correct to say that Augustine believed that
Genesis taken literally did not require such an interpretation rather
than to say he thought Genesis couldn't be taken literally. A day taken
literally can be a day of the Lord which can be any length in human
terms. In the words of Augustine, they were "God-divided days," not
"sun-divided days."

Hi there,

When I'm discussing with YECs, I've noticed that an important thing to
point out is the number of mainstream/orthodox christians that did not
believe that Gen 1 was meant to be interpreted literally (from Augustin
to Billy Graham). I was wondering if there is an article/website where
a list of such people is available.

Alternatively, if this list is not available, I'd be glad to put
together such a list if you're interested in contributing names and
references.

Peace,

Jason
