This discussion has gone off into some side tracks; I'd like to return to an
aspect of what David Campbell originally posted:
-------
The information I received claims that a committee report that calls
creationism and intelligent design philosophy threats to democracy
which must be repressed was passed by the committee on education and
culture and is going to the entire EU parliament for possible
endorsement in three weeks.
--------
As our subsequent discussion has shown, this report David received was
distorted. Nobody is suggesting "repressing" anybody's philosophy or belief --
instead it seems to be a reasonable (though not without flaws) attempt to
defend science and science education against pseudoscience.
So, my question is what organization (presumably Christian?) is spreading
such alarmist misinformation about this EU report?
It is a disservice to the Gospel when Christians cry "persecution" and
"repression" at the slightest insult (the "boy who cried wolf" lesson may be
applicable here). Not to mention how claims of persecution by comfortable
American Christians (which are often really complaints about not being able to
exercise dominant cultural and political power like the church once did) must be
insulting to our many brothers and sisters around the world who really are
persecuted for following Jesus.
