[asa] The Language of Science: Degrees of Knowing

In the January 2007 issue of Physics Today, Helen Quinn from SLAC wrote a sound article on the language of science and how to communicate science. The July 2007 issue printed some letters to the editor on that topic and included a short response from Helen herself. I think it's worth reading in light of our discussion over the past year or two.

I couldn't copy the letter--somehow they protected it--but I hope this link works. http://ptonline.aip.org/getpdf/servlet/GetPDFServlet?filetype=pdf&id=PHTOAD000060000007000011000001&idtype=cvips Go to the second page of this two-page pdf file and the last letter is 'Quinn replies.' It's only a column and a half long and worth reading. She makes some good points. I would appreciate hearing your reaction to her approach.
