Absolutely. Animal death before the fall was a very big issue in the 19th
century. Go here http://home.messiah.edu/~tdavis/texts.htm and read the two
selections from Edward Hitchcock, for a very revealing look at the
controversy then.

The prevalence of this issue then--and the thoughtful way in which it was
dealt with--is the main reason I put those texts up on my webpage. I want
YECs to be able to confront texts like those, to have to deal with the
theological and biblical issues that Hitchcock brings in.
