It's helpful to point out errors on both sides as a way of reassuring
someone that you aren't simply accepting atheistic propaganda.

More importantly, I think we need to start with the theological issues. One
way to approach this is to review a wide range of views on understanding
Genesis 1-2. While rejecting views that fall under the general category of
"it's a bunch of nonsense made up by some ignorant primitive people", any
view that respects the text as being God's Word has particular advantages
and disadvantages. Simply listing a range of views highlights the fact that
many different approaches have been taken by Christians. It also may lead
into the fact that when and how of creation is not ultimately very important
compared to Who and why. Conversely, examples of bad antievolutionary
theology (e.g., Wells, Hare Krishnas, etc.) use an area that the audience is
familiar with in order to show that all antievolutionism is not guarenteed
to be trustworthy.
