The last two days brought forty visits to my web site from the people at asa.calvin.edu. Four of these forty went to the download page. Statistically, I'm not optimistic ...
The goal of my efforts, years from now envisions New York City (Silicon Alley is a cute little phrase, right?) as the epicenter for research, and the industrial base of technologies for systems pertaining to computer cognition. And to also have it known that the first prototypical systems of computer cognition were devised and wrought by a Christian (myself), or Christians. (... though like I said I'm not optimistic about the later group there (: |
Some very prominent "American intellectuals" consider computer cognition practically impossible at the present time, given the present scientific paradigms and technologies:

The first paragraph of the above paper is typical of the many I have encountered, and reveals the problem: the pompous(?) intellectual elite of America, these clowns want to immediately mimic and devise something on par with the human brain. Forget the basics they imagine amongst themselves, the trial and error process of finding out what works, what doesn't, somehow this is too ...? elementary schoolish, too childish to think of as a starting point. Begin with the nematode, the nervous system of the arthropod, and taking the time to work their way up? No, no, no, they're obviously too smart for that.
Everyone is listening and agreeing with the predictions of these experts.
Anyone familiar with Jeff Hawkins of Palm Pilot fame? Read some of the posts and conversations at his web sites' book forum, the book OnIntelligence:
The talk at the OnIntelligence forum, and all forums like this is such a waste of time. Not that people shouldn't be investigating the cerebral cortex, but that no one is doing and offering anything in any context other than towards understanding and mimicking the human cognitive process! I have to laugh; my treatise is rendered of no import to the subject at hand. Who of any reputation would consider decades of research towards mimicking? (take your pick throughout the zoological kingdom now ..., the cognition of a cockroach, the fly, a spider. Why don't these otherwise very smart people want to do their homework?
It is conceivable that America, the West will lose it. I believe it is realistic that within the next ten, fifteen years the first computer systems mimicking a form of biological cognition actually come from the government sponsored corporations of Japan, or China, a group of bright, affluent Hindu's in Bangladesh put their heads and resources together and one day announced to the world a prototypical system.
To the good folks at asa@calvin.edu: Won't it be wonderful someday to hear everyone in the press, the media, for a time saying how clever the Hindu's, or whoever will do it, are? And what should and will be said about the educated Americans at this future date? There's a knot in my stomach just thinking about this prospect.
I'm in a catch-22. I promote my treatise and risk losing it; I keep it to myself and nothing happens.
Read these posts for more of why America can lose one of the greatest challenges it is presently involved with:

Read bautforum.pdf from the bottom, end up to the opening view of the document to follow the discussion.

The Hannity.pdf post sounds a little too rushed as it was written. I should have taken more time to write and clarify my thoughts.
I'm trying to break you good Christians at asa@calvin.edu from the teat, your steady diet of milk; I'm offering real Christian meat with my treatise. Through trial and error, over time I'll learn how to package it to do what I want to do with it.
