I doubt that anyone, left of right, wants a particular "sense of
morality" forced upon them. Most of us really want to make up our own
minds on such things.

The "left" traditionally has seen morals as being concerned with civil
rights, poor vs rich, unions vs business, etc. Personal moralities seem
to take second place. The "right" seems to focus on personal behavior
first, with social issues taking second place.

My own morals see both as important. I suspect most people would agree.

There are both saints and sinners on both sides. <G>

"Team of Rivals" for the Rico Bugle this month; the story of the years

I'm not sure your depiction of "founded by Abolitionists in Missouri"
tells much of the story, but I understand your point. The book above
tells the story in some detail.
