Morschauser contends that the "image of God" in ancient near eastern culture
means "in the service of God" -- that Adam was to represent God to the
surrounding culture.

This is based on a quick read of the first couple of pages, but it may be an
answer to the issue Glenn raised a few weeks ago (i.e. where does it say Adam's
mission was to tell the surrounding culture about God?)
