It's not the egg, it's the embryo that's the purported problem. Totally
different is rather exaggerated-the claim is that the three fingers of birds
and the three fingers of dinosaurs (occasionally reduced further, e.g. T.
rex) are not the same subset of the generic five fingers found in relatively
unmodified tetrapods. The developmental pattern appears similar (to the
extent we can tell from looking at dinosaur embryos). Not to mention the
fact that the papers claiming that the fingers are different argue that
birds evolved from close relatives of dinosaurs. To claim that this
disproves evolution is dishonest.
