In addition to the question of motive in defining lies, there is also the issue of careless statements versus deliberate assertions. The fact that Johnson occasionally makes correct statments about the difference between philosphical naturalism and methodological naturalism tends to suggest carelessness when he confounds them. However, this does not especially get him off the hook; in addition to the Biblical warnings against careless speech, presenting careless assertions as quality science or theology is not truthful.
