Jim,
I would agree with much that you said, but I'm not too sure about the above.
If this is correct, then why do the gospels record Jesus' reason for speaking
in parables as:
Though seeing, they may not see;
Though hearing, they may not understand
And also state that when Jesus was alone with his disciples, he explained
everything to them - this doesn't seem consistent with your suggestion.
