    Calvin preferred the reading rope to camel, but most modern commentators seem to agree that camel is the correct reading. Neither one fits through a needle.

    Some of Finklestein's archaeological claims are challenged by the recent Science article, mentioned previously on the list, that uses 14C dating to support the biblical picture. Finklestein claimed that all the impressive building activity evidenced by archaeology postdated Solomon (if he existed at all). However, the 14C dating indicates that the beginning of the phase of extensive building, commercial development, etc. in Palestine began well before the invasion of Shishak, in Rehoboam's reign. In the accompanying news commentary, Finklestein was the only archaeologist interviewed who did not seem to think this was a major blow to his views.
