The latest update from Nature reports on an advance in DNA
autocatalysis research. DNA was made to form a complementary strand from bases without the help of protein, but the new strand is not standard DNA. They suggest that the DNA and the modified complement (which sounds like a protein nucleic acid from the brief description) might be able to promote each other's formation. This challenges the claim that the complex DNA copying systems of modern organisms is irreducibly complex.
