    Philadelphia - - Chestnut Hill College welcomes alumna Marie A.
    DiBerardino, Ph.D., professor Emerita of Biochemistry at MCP-Hahnemann
    University, and internationally renowned leader in the field of genetics and developmental biology. Dr. DiBerardino is the Keynote speaker for the
    College's annual Leadership Conference, sponsored by the Alumnae/i
    Association. She will speak on "The Ethics of Cloning and Stem Cells,"
    Sunday, October 21, at 1:30 P.M. in the Sorgenti Arena located at 9601
    Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia.

    Dr. DiBerardino's field of research is cloning, specifically frog cloning, which was a precursor to cloning mammals. She was a member of the Briggs and King research team that developed the technique of nuclear transplantation, instrumental in transforming a single cell into an organism. This technique revolutionized modern biological sciences. Dr. DiBerardino's successful reproduction of complete tadpoles preceded Dolly the sheep by over a decade, and has been described as one of the most important achievements in the history of development studies.
